Teton Associates is a boutique executive recruiting firm specializing in retained search services for the asset management industry. We work with institutional investors that range from single manager hedge funds to asset management businesses within banks and insurance companies, from fund of funds to family offices, from mutual funds to corporate pension plans.
Teton also conducts searches in the non-profit field. Searches have been conducted for organizations with a focus in social services, chemical addiction, and conservation and the environment. Teton is a premier provider of team lift outs to the asset management industry focusing on hedge funds and fund of hedge funds where the growth and opportunities are robust. Because there has been such a drain of talent from traditional long only managers to alternative managers, the company will also provide lift out services to traditional managers as they begin to rebuild their investment platforms.
Steve McPherson and Clawson Smith, Teton’s founding principals, are veterans of the executive recruiting industry and focus solely on the asset management industry. They have been responsible for literally hundreds of placements over the past twenty years and they have a data base of senior investment professionals that runs into the thousands.
Teton believes that its principals' experience is critical to the success of its business. For more than a dozen years they have worked together as a team which has enabled their clients to always have access to one or the other during the course of a search. They have always conducted their search assignments personally and have not turned over the execution phase to junior associates.
